Depends on what the objective is… for a summary of Catholic teaching you can use a catechism (several options are listed in the section ‘Catholic Bible, Catechism, Doctrine’ – for instance, the Catechism of St. Pius X is a more compact one. Many of the books in the section ‘Our Faith’ are also great for learning about the Faith.

There are certain problems why Sr. Kowalska’s writings are not considered traditional. The diary was censored three times during two different popes (Pius XII and John XXIII). Here is some more information:

The diary has practically been an attempt to introduce into the Church the doctrines of the Mariavite priests, condemned by Pope Pius X in Tribus Circiter, but finally introduced with a vengeance by John Paul II. Here’s the encyclical that condemns the teaching:

The diary has some unorthodox, even preposterous passages, which read like a love letter and in which Sr. Kowalska is elevated even above the Blessed Virgin by whatever is the source of the claimed visions. This is why it is more probable that the actual source of the material is Sr. Kowalska’s confessor, Fr. Sopoćko, who somehow pressured or manipulated her into “receiving” the Mariavite doctrine as direct revelation. Fr. Sopoćko was also the model for the original Divine Mercy image (round face, tired eyes cast down).

Where can I find “The Sunday Readings by Fr. Kevin O’sullivan in Cylcle A-C in an ebook or to read online? I love these books and they help me prepare for the mass each week. This would be an awesome Blessing if it could be in an ebook/kindle book or read online.

Thank you. I love to especially listen to the audio books. The only thing is that I am having a hard time relating to some of the stories of the saints. I feel so different from them. Partly that I am not holy enough and partly because they lived in such a different time. I’m starting to feel guilty for sleeping on a comfortable bed.
Indeed, we’ve grown so accustomed to comfort and ease of life that the mere idea of the penances and sufferings of the saints of old (or even modern ones, like St. Gemma, Padre Pio, Bl. Alexandrina, etc) seems repulsive and terrifying. Ultimately, the ability to do such things (and also to bear involuntary sufferings with patience and even joy) is a measure of our love of God. The saints were able and willing to do this because they loved God above all else.
What really matters is not how much and how severe penance and mortification one performs, but the love (of God) with which one does everything. We can gain as much – if not more – merit by sanctifying all our daily acts – i.e. by doing everything we do (no matter how small or insignificant!) for the love of Jesus and by uniting all our acts, thoughts, words, etc to Him and to His life, suffering and death. Thus all our acts, washed in His precious Blood and united to Him, done with a pure intention (for the love of God) would have great merit, and would save countless souls. A simple act of love of God (something all of us can do many times throughout the day) is worth infinitely more than the greatest works done with less love.

25 years ago I found a book called “The Bread Life”in a Catholic church library. Never located it again.
My memory of it is being essentially a book devoted just to the meaning of bread of life, essentially the central theme of the Eucharist. It was not a junior or an academic book, not lengthy nor short.
I keep hoping I will find it.

I do wonder if you had ever come across a catechism book called christian youth’s manual in piety, it has many pictures in it, it is a book of 396 pages and 300 of those pages have pictures on them for children to look at.

The Imitation of Christ is excellent and everyone can benefit from reading it. You may also want to have a look at the various other books listed in the first section of the book list (‘Catholic life, path to holiness’) – these are great spiritual classics suited to most ages. I’m particularly fond of the books of St. Alphonsus de Liguori but, again, his style may or may not appeal to you. Bishop Tihamer Toth has written very good books addressed to young men (only two of which seem to have been translated to English); here is his “Youth and Chastity” – https://www.forgottenbooks.com/en/download/YouthandChastity_10793770.pdf; his most popular book, “Young Man of Character” can be purchased in electronic format on Amazon. It’s likely a consequence of the scanning process. The text would need to be corrected after the book was scanned, and it’s unlikely the people who are scanning old books for sites like Google Books or Archive.org have the time and resources to do so. God bless.
